Panchen Lama Presents Hada to Wen Jiabao On February 10, 2012, Wen Jiabao received a visit from the 11th Panchen Lama erdeni chokyjeb in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai. Wen Jiabao said that the Panchen Lama showed the good demeanor of the living Buddha. Wen Jiabao first congratulated the Panchen Lama on the Spring Festival and the Tibetan New Year, and extended holiday greetings to friends in Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan compatriots. The Panchen Lama presented Hada to Wen Jiabao. Wen Jiabao listened to the Panchen Lama's report on his study and life. Wen Jiabao said that in the past seventeen years, the Panchen Lama has practiced hard, improved his Buddhist attainments, steadily improved his cultural literacy, solemn and decent speech and manners, and treated others modestly and peacefully, showing the good demeanor of the living Buddha of Tibetan Buddhism. He warmly congratulated the Panchen Lama on his growth and progress. Wen Jiabao said that 2011 marks the 60th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet. Over the past 60 years, especially since the reform and opening up, under the leadership of the Party and the government, with the support of the people of all ethnic groups in China, and through the hard work and unremitting efforts of the people of all ethnic groups in Tibet, Tibet has undergone earth-shaking changes, and brilliant achievements have attracted worldwide attention in economic development and social undertakings. In the future, we should adhere to the system of regional ethnic autonomy, continue to implement the spirit of the Fifth Central Forum on Tibet Work, conscientiously implement the 12th Five-Year Plan for Supporting Tibet's Economic and Social Development and Construction Projects, pay more attention to improving the lives of Tibetan compatriots, protecting the ecological environment and cultural traditions of Tibet and other Tibetan areas, and protect the freedom of religious belief of Tibetan people, so as to make the people of all ethnic groups in Tibet work together with the people of the whole country. I hope the Panchen Lama will play an important role in safeguarding the reunification of the motherland. Wen Jiabao put forward three hopes to the Panchen Lama: First, continue to strengthen study. While studying Buddhist classics, we should also learn from history, the masses and practice, and constantly improve our knowledge level. The second is to thoroughly study the interpretation of teachings, explore the positive thoughts in Tibetan Buddhist teachings, and guide monks to love the country, abide by the law and observe the precepts. Third, bravely shoulder heavy burdens and play a more important and active role in safeguarding the reunification of the motherland and national unity.
