February 23, 1940 Anti-Japanese National Hero Yang Yat-Yang
Eighty-five years ago today, on February 23, 1940 (January 16, 1940 in the lunar calendar), Yang Jingyu, the anti-Japanese national hero, died for his country. Statue of Yang Jingyu (February 26, 1905-February 23, 1940) At the beginning of 1940, it was the coldest season in Changbai Mountain, Jilin Province, and the temperature dropped to more than minus 40 degrees. However, the soldiers of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Forces still haunted the forest and snow fields, dealing with the heavy troops of the Japanese crown. In order to preserve strength, Yang Jingyu, commander-in-chief of the First Route Army of the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Forces, decided to break up the troops into pieces and disperse their activities. After several days of fighting, there were only six soldiers left around Yang Jingyu. Everyone was hungry, tired and cold, so they had to huddle together to keep warm. After some deep thought, Yang Jingyu decided to separate the six soldiers. However, no one wanted to leave the beloved leader. The soldiers rushed to say, "We live together, and we will die together." Yang Jingyu put his hand on a soldier's shoulder and said affectionately, "One more person who lives will have more revolutionary strength. What's the point of dying together? Go separately, the goal is small, we can break through, and we will meet again in the future." Hearing this, everyone was silent. These fearless steel men on the battlefield all shed tears at the moment. When leaving, Yang Jingyu held his comrades' hands tightly and told him, "For the sake of the revolution, we must persevere to the end. Even if we die, we can't reveal party secrets or surrender to the enemy!" Yang Jingyu took two soldiers in the forest for another two days, came to the vicinity of Dadonggou, and was discovered by enemy and puppet agents. In the battle with the enemy, both soldiers died heroically. The enemy found Yang Jingyu's seal from the soldier and concluded that he was nearby, so he cut off traffic and sent a large number of spies disguised as farmers who went into the mountains to fetch firewood to search for Yang Jingyu. At this moment, only Yang Jingyu was left alone. For a few days, he didn't eat a grain of food, only ate some hay and bark. He was too hungry to move, so he tore the cotton from his cotton-padded clothes, kneaded it into small balls, wrapped it in snow and swallowed it. He was suffering from a high fever, and his legs were so numb that he lost consciousness from severe arthritis, but he was fearless and still dealt with the enemy skillfully. Due to the traitor's snitch, at 4 o'clock on the afternoon of February 23rd, the enemy found Yang Jingyu on Sandaoweizi Mountain, southwest of Baoantun, Mengjiang County. Yang Jingyu leaned against a century-old pine and shot the enemy with both hands. The enemies fell down in front of him one by one. Yang Jingyu was injured in his left hand and bleeding, but he still tenaciously shot with his right hand. At this moment, several criminal bullets hit Yang Jingyu's chest, and the blood stained his military uniform red and seeped into the white snow. In the face of the brutal enemy, Yang Jingyu shouted with all his strength: "Long live the Communist Party of China!" Heroic martyrdom. Yang Jingyu, born in 1905 in Queshan County, Henan Province.
