August 21, 2005 23rd World University Students' Games in Izmir, Turkey
On August 21, 2005 (Lunar Calendar July 17, 2005), the 23rd World University Games closed in Izmir, Turkey. The 23rd World University Games were held in Izmir, the second largest port city of Turkey, from August 11 to 21, 2005 with more than 110 national and regional athletes participating in the World University Summer Games. This World University Summer Games consisted of 15 major and 196 minor competitions. The Chinese University Sports delegations participated in field, swimming, basketball, volleyball, football, tennis, sword, jumping water, bowling, gymnastics and art gymnastics with a total of 11 major and 137 minor competitions. The final World University Summer Games were held in Russia with 26 gold, 16 silver, 23 bronze, 21 gold, 16 silver, 12 bronze, second in China, 18 gold, 18 silver and 18 bronze in Japan.
