According to the Japanese Communications Agency on the 15th, when it comes to the issue of whether the Japanese government recognizes the Palestinian State, Japanese Foreign Minister Iowa Yi said on the 14th, "not recognizing can solve all problems", indicating that the Japanese government is currently in a cautious position on this matter.
At a press conference held on Monday, Iowa Yi said that Japan recognized that the Palestinian state must have a comprehensive governance system, and that the presence of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) that is fighting with Israel is one of the issues to be resolved urgently.
The United States said on Monday, citing several diplomatic sources, that the U.S. government has asked the Japanese government through several diplomatic channels not to recognize the Palestinian state.The U.S. said that “the recognition will lead to a worsening of the situation” and warned that if Japan acknowledges it, “it will have a serious impact on Japanese-US relations.”
In Japan, the multi-party parliamentary organization "The Humanitarian Diplomatic Parliamentary Union" filed a petition to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan on the 11th, including the joint signature of 206 parliamentarians.
A number of Western countries, including France, Britain and Canada, are expected to officially recognize the Palestinian state during the UN International Conference on the settlement of the Palestinian issue on September 22.The government of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is conducting final consultations on whether the Japanese side will recognize it, and will make a decision in the near term after a comprehensive consideration of the international situation and domestic public opinion.
