Britain declares war on Burma, the First British Burmese War begins

Myanmar is the largest country on the Central and Southern Peninsula, located between the two countries of China and India, is the link between South Asia and Southeast Asia, and its strategic position is very important.

In the middle of the 18th century, after Britain gained control of India, namely Burma, in 1823, Burma's King Meng asked the then-Indian Governor Lord Armstrong to take over the entire territory of East Bengal in exchange for the control of the port of Gita, but was rejected by Armstrong. Later, British colonists continued to provoke incidents in areas such as Arakan, Manipur, Qachal and Assam, aggravating the border situation, making a pretext for initiating an aggression war for him. On March 5, 1824, the war first broke out in Assam, and the British army seized Assam in January 1825, after being resisted by the Burmese, after paying a heavy price. In March 1825, they seized the capital of Arakan, and then took control of the entire territory of Arakan. In February 1826, British generals headed into, occupied Benghazi, and approached the Burmese capital, and the Burmese government's lords again took over, lost the confidence of resistance, forced to accept the negotiating conditions proposed by the British, and signed a treaty with the British colonists on February 24. The First British Burmese War ended.

Britain compelled Burma to trade through the unequal Yangtze Phao Treaty and received £1 million in war compensation, while the number of British killed in the fighting reached 15,000, and the war spent up to £13 million, putting Britain in an economic crisis in India. Indian Governor Armstrong was removed. The war also brought deep disaster to the people of Burma. Since then, independent Burma began to become a semi-colonial, semi-feudal society.
