June 25, 1982 Secretary of State Hague resigns.
Today, 43 years ago, on June 25, 1982 (Lunar Calendar, May 5, 1982), Secretary of State Hague resigned. On June 25, 1982, Secretary of State Alexander-Hague announced his resignation due to dissatisfaction with foreign policy at the time. In fact, even in the late days of the Nixon administration, Hague began to perform the duties of managing the Elephant Office, and many considered him to be a moderate figure in the conservative Regan Cabinet. He would be replaced by another former Nixon assistant, George-Schultz. President Reagan and Hague had differences on some issues. George-Schultz had served as Treasury Secretary under Nixon. Economist Ellen-Lyn Spahn called him “a very excellent organization, a thoughtful person.”
