Napoleon Bonaparte (French: Napoléon Bonaparte, Italian: Napoléone Buonaparte, 15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821), Napoleon I, born in Corsica, was a great French military and politician of the nineteenth century, founder of the First French Empire, who succeeded the first rule of the First French Republic (1799–1804), and Emperor of the First French Empire (1804–1815).
Napoleon was crowned Emperor on November 6, 1804, turning the republic into an empire, and during his reign he was known as the "Emperor of France" and was the second Emperor of France to enjoy this title since Charles III.
He repeatedly repressed the reactionary forces, promulgated the Napoleon Code, improved the world legal system, established the social order of Western capitalist countries. He led an anti-French coalition of five countries, including Britain, Poland, Austria and Russia, won more than fifty major battles, heavily defeated the feudal system of European countries, defended the achievements of the French Revolution. He expanded many times during the rule of France, launched the Napoleonic War, became the protector of the Italian king, the Commonwealth of the Rhine, the arbitrator of the Swiss Federation, the colonial ruler of the French Empire (including the French colonies, the Dutch colonies, the Spanish colonies, etc.). In 1821, Napoleon died of illness on the island of Saint Helena. In 1840, his spirit was welcomed back to Paris, France, and buried solemnly at the Cathedral of Honor of Paris on the Seine.
