Birthday of Pope Innocent XII

Innocent 12th Pope Innocent XII, 13 March 1615 – 27 September 1700) Italian pope (1691–1700), formerly named by Antonio Piniatelli. Antonio PignatelliIn 1693, King Louis XIV of France accepted his advice and announced the abolition of the Gaulois provisions issued in 1682 against the former Pope Innocent XI, thus resolving the impasse between Louis and the Pope. At the same time, Innocent recognized the king's authority to jurisdiction over the vacant diocese. In 1699 on Louis's request to condemn the French mystic Philosopher Ferdinand's book The Motto of the Saints (an important work of the Silentists), Ferdinand immediately acknowledged his mistake.
