At the same time, Innocent recognized the king's authority to jurisdiction over the vacant diocese. In 1699 on Louis's request to condemn the French mystic Philosopher Ferdinand's book The Motto of the Saints (an important work of the Silentists), Ferdinand immediately acknowledged his mistake.
