Gerald Rudolph Ford (July 14, 1913 – December 26, 2006) was the 38th President of the United States (August 9, 1974 – January 20, 1977) and the 40th Vice President and 38th President of the United States. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and was a famous football star at school. He then went to Yale University to study law and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After the war, Ford became a firm “internationalist” who defeated the Republican leader at the time and was elected as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Michigan Gorgeous Village. In 1963, he was elected as the leader of the House of Representatives minority party, and he served as a member of the House until 1973. At the height of the Water Gate events, then Vice President Spiro Agnelli resigned, Ford was appointed Vice President (term from December 6, 1973 to August 9, 1974). On August 9, 1974, Richard Nixon resigned and Ford succeeded as President of the United States. He was the only unelected Vice President and President in American history. He and his Vice President Nelson Rockefeller were the only two unelected, but accused Vice Presidents in American history. During Ford's reign, the United States withdrew from Vietnam, the Helsinki Agreement entered into force, domestic inflation and economic depression in the United States. Due to the majority of Democrats in the U.S. Congress, the government was unable to pass important laws. Ford was forced to use his veto right. Many were also very dissatisfied with Ford Amnesty Nixon. 1976 Democratic presidential candidate Jimmy Carter defeated Ford with a small advantage. He campaigned for vice president of Ronald Reagan's administration in 1980, but Reagan chose George H.W. Bush as his vice president. In 2003, he lived 90 years old, becoming the fourth former president of the United States aged over 90 years old.
