Breaking-News >> TodayHistory Swiss symbolist painter Arnold Burklin has passed away.
16 October 1827 – 16 January 1901 Swiss symbolist painter.
He was born in a business family in Basel, Sweden, and persuaded his father to devote himself to art. During his youth he traveled to Europe, Italian art had a profound influence on him, classical art in Rome inspired him by many important works later, and Naples and Pompeii paintings had a profound influence on his skills and style. In 1866 he began painting for the Museum of Basel, and since then, it was a prolific period in Berkeley, where he had a significant improvement in his skills in color. He first studied landscape painting in Düsseldorf, Germany, where he met Feuerbach and became a good friend. Since then, he has travelled everywhere, travelling to Brussels, Zurich, Geneva and Rome, visiting the works of classical and Renaissance masters, and browsing the landscape of the Mediterranean coast, which has influenced the styles of his works with an imaginative and mysterious colour. In 1858 he taught at the Weimar School of Fine Arts until 1861, after which in 1866, he settled in Basel, Switzerland, and created theatre-themed decorative wall paintings for the Basel Public Art Exhibition, in 1871, moved to Munich, in 1885, moved to Hottingen, Switzerland, and finally settled in the small town near Florence, Italy. Brooklyn’s most famous work is his five Dead Island series, painted by the atmosphere of the British Cemetery in Florence, where his young daughter was buried. His work is filled with a mysterious, fantasy atmosphere, but with classical architecture filled with death and mysterious, sad scene. This is the most controversial and wonderful work of Berkeley. Berkeley loves this subject, with at least five works of the same subject. Symbolism is fully expressed in this work. Berkeley carefully selects objects from nature and combines them to create a peculiar atmosphere. Death Island cliffs are forested, scary, only one boat can reach, and the white spirit of death stands at the head of the ship, sending new ghosts to the land of no return. It triggers viewers to think about death. It is worth mentioning that the name of the painting is sponsored by Berkeley. His later works became more and more subjective, often depicting mythical animals and mysterious artifacts such as Monster Pest, Black Death, Odysseus and Calupso.
