Middle Island

In 1867 Midway Island was first discovered by the United States, in 1903 was governed by the U.S. Navy, in 1905 was built an underwater cable connection station, and in 1939 an air station and submarine base. It became one of the United States' major naval bases. After the Japanese Navy Air Force successfully attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, the Japanese Navy subsequently invaded Midway on June 4, 1942, but the United States had been prepared, and Japan lost four aircraft carriers - the Red City, the Myron, the Flying Dragon and the Gaia, and thereafter no longer had the ability to launch a large-scale offensive in the Pacific battlefield, leaving the leadership of the war in the hands of the United States.

Middle Island is a coral reef, geographically located at 28°12'38"N, western 177°21'16", 24 km. Land area 5 square kilometers, made up of Sand Island, East Island and Spit Island, sub-tropical climate. Midway Atoll (Midway Atoll) is located in the heart of the Pacific Ocean, the nearest continent is also 2,000 miles (about 3219 km).
