On 14 October 1951, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua signed the Charter of the Central American Organization, establishing a regional international organization called the Organization of Central American States, with the aim of strengthening the unity of Central American countries through joint actions to promote economic, social and cultural development. In August 1962, after the establishment of the Common Market and Bank of the United States, the five countries signed a new charter and reorganized their headquarters in San Salvador. The agencies include the Presidential Conference, the Conference of Foreign Ministers and the Economic Council.
