On January 25, 1759, the famous 18th-century Scottish poet Robert Pence was born, Robert Burns (1759–1796), a Scottish peasant poet who held a special place in the history of British literature.
He resurrected and enriched the Scottish folk song, his poems were musical and can be sung. In the latter half of his life he mainly collected Scottish folk songs and lyrics, edited six volumes of The Scottish Music Summary (1787–1808), edited eight volumes of The Original Scottish Song Collection (1793–1818) for Thompson, so that many of the lost folk songs could be preserved. The lyrics filled with many of his songs made him mourn the world. The main poem of the latter period was the folklore-based narrative poem Tom Osanthe, which wrote the story of a drunkard's night-walk with ghosts. Another long poem, The Happy Beggars, wrote a group of men and women wanderers looking for his joy. His work was vivid, lively, expressing the idea of freedom and equality.
