January 30, 1754 – American politician John Lansing was born.
John Lansing (John Lansing, 30 January 1754–1829) was an American politician, lawyer, and New Yorker who was the military secretary of Philip Skiller during the War of Independence of 1776–1777. He entered politics as the sixth New York Congressman and mayor of Albany. During the 1787 Philadelphia Constitutional Congress, he represented New York at the conference, but opposed the New Constitution, leaving the conference with his friend Robert Yates in anger. In 1788 he again strongly opposed the Constitution at the New York Constitution ratification conference. After the Constitution was passed, he was actively involved in the legal business. In 1829, he disappeared when he traveled to New York, and from there he was unconsciously murdered.
