Scott, Sir Walter (1771–1832) British writer. Born in Edinburgh on 15 August 1771, died in Abbotsford on 21 September 1832. He studied law at the University of Edinburgh, became a lawyer in 1792 and subsequently deputy county governor and chief of the High Civil Court of Edinburgh. He spent his life working hard, writing a lot of poetry, novels, history, reviews, and so on. From 1802 to 1803, Scotts collected three volumes of The Scottish Border Song Collection, which was well-recognised. In 1805, he published eight ministerial poems, including The Last Chanted Poet, Mamien and Lady of the Lake. In 1814, he began writing historical novels, and anonymously published Wifley. The main works include: The Cemetery Old Man, the Red Emirates Robber, the Heart of Central Los Angeles, the Avengers, the Castle Shadow.
