Today, 30 years ago, on October 23, 1995 (Calendar, August 29, 1995), Britain transplanted the world’s first electric heart. On October 23, 1995, a 64-year-old British retired filmmaker, Goodman Day, became the world’s first person to receive a permanent electric artificial heart. This operation was conducted by Dr. Steve Westby at Oxford John Radcliffe Hospital in the UK. The designer of the implanted permanent electric artificial heart was the Texas Heart Institute, a manufacturer of the American thermo-powered heart system company. This £80,000-worth electro-powered heart is as big as a fist, connected to the battery set from the wires drawn from the chest. Therefore, Goodman must continuously replace the battery set in the future. Goodman received a good post-operative condition on July 23.
