China signed the Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on September 6, 2000 (August 9, 2000). On September 6, 2000, China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Wang Ying-van, on behalf of the Chinese government, signed the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child concerning Trafficking in Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The Protocol was adopted by the 54th General Assembly of the United Nations in May 2000 and open to signature by all Parties to and signatories to the Convention. At present, six countries have signed the Protocol, and there has been no state ratification, so the Protocol has not yet entered into force.
