On June 25, 1991, Slovenia and Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia, which immediately led to a military confrontation with the Serbian-controlled Yugoslav National Army. The aircraft of the Federal Air Force bombed a number of Slovenian targets including the capital Ljubljana on June 25, 1991. In the face of increasing racial tensions, the international efforts for peaceful reconciliation made little progress.
