On March 17, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi signed in Beijing the Joint Communication of the People's Republic of China and the Islamic Republic of Gambia on the restoration of diplomatic relations, and the two countries resumed diplomatic relations at the ambassador level from that date.
