Qatar Foreign Ministry: Gaza ceasefire talks unrealistic

Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesman Anshari said on September 16 that talks on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip are currently unrealistic and that mediation is pointless in the case of Israel’s attempt to assassinate a negotiating representative and bomb the mediator country.

Assari said at a weekly routine press conference on the same day that if Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu genuinely wants peace, he fully knows the road to peace, but he chose not to go.

Assari said Qatar would continue its efforts to promote world peace, especially in the Gaza Strip, and to increase pressure on Netanyahu to urge him to end his war on Gaza.

According to the Qatari news agency on the 16th, Qatar emir (head of state) Tamim discussed the incident of the Israeli attack in Doha with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Rubio in the capital Doha that day, the report did not disclose any details.

Israel announced a "precise strike" against the leadership of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Doha on Sunday, Hamas said the Hamas negotiating delegation was discussing a latest U.S. proposed ceasefire when the airstrikes occurred, five Palestinians and one Qatari security personnel were killed in the attack.
