Eighty-five years ago today, on June 29th, 1940 (May 24th, 1940 in the lunar calendar), Imagist painter Paul Klee died of illness. Klee's innocent painting "The Man with a Tongue" (1932) On June 29th, 1940, Paul Klee died of a heart attack in Locarno at the age of 61. Klee devoted his early years to music and visual arts. In 1900, he was admitted to Munich Academy of Fine Arts and studied painting under Franz von Stark. After Klee met Russian impressionist painter Wassily Kandinsky in 1912, Klee participated in the avant-garde "Blue Knight" exhibition held in Munich. From 1920 to 1931, Klee taught painting at the Bauhaus School of Design and later at the Düsseldorf Academy. After Hitler became head of state in 1933, Klee was attacked by the Nazis for no reason. They treated Klee as a degenerate foreigner, and he left Germany, went to Italy, later to France, and finally settled in Switzerland. Klee created a unique expression of color, form and space.
