Today, 108 years ago, on May 18, 1917 (Calendar March 28, 1917), the U.S. National Mobilization was preparing for the First War. On May 18, 1917, U.S. President Wilson wrote a bill in law requiring all U.S. men between 21 and 30 years of age to register to serve in the U.S. Army under possible conditions. This well-known new law, the "Draft of Military Recruitment", plans to recruit 500,000 soldiers to participate in the war against Germany. This draft was passed this month in Congress, but not without a vote of opposition. A handful of opposing lawmakers argued that the military recruitment should be a voluntary premise.
