Independence of Georgia 9 April 1991
Thirty-four years ago today, on April 9, 1991 (February 25, 1991 in the lunar calendar), Georgia became independent. The Republic of Georgia is located in western Asia, with a very small part of its territory in Europe, bordering the Black Sea to the west. It covers an area of 69,700 square kilometers. The population is 5.45 million, 70% of which are Georgians, and the rest are Armenians and Russians. Georgian language is the main language. The capital city is Tbilisi. In the 6th century BC, the Kingdom of Korshida appeared in Georgia. In the long history, foreigners have invaded and split many times. Russia had suzerainty sovereignty over it after 1783. The Georgian Soviet Socialist Republic was established in 1921. In 1922, as a member of the South Caucasus, it formed the Soviet Union with Russia and Ukraine. After the South Caucasus Federation was abolished in 1936, it joined the Soviet Union. Independence was declared on 9 April 1991. Established diplomatic relations with China on June 9, 1992.
