The UN Independent International Commission for the Investigation of the Occupied Palestinian Territories (including East Jerusalem) released a report on Monday. Israel accused of committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza。
Local time on 15 September, Gaza
Through two years of investigation, the commission concluded that the Israeli authorities and Israeli security forces committed the crime. Four of the five acts of genocide defined in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocidekilling members of a group; causing serious physical or mental harm to members of that group; deliberately undermining the basis of subsistence of that group, destroying it in whole or in part; and preventing the reproduction of that group.
The report said clear statements by Israeli authorities and patterns of behavior by Israeli security forces indicated that the genocide was intended to destroy Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, in whole or in part. Israel should be held responsible for the genocide in Gaza, where the highest levels of Israeli authorities have planned the genocide campaign for two years and have failed to stop and punish the genocide.
In the process of identifying the genocide, the committee examined Israeli military operations in Gaza, including the killing and serious injury of large numbers of Palestinians; the implementation of a comprehensive blockade, including stopping humanitarian aid that led to famine; the systematic undermining of Gaza’s healthcare and education systems; the implementation of systematic sexual and gender-based violence; the direct targeting of children; the systematic and large-scale attacks on religious and cultural sites; and disregarding orders from the International Court of Justice.
The Committee concluded that the Israeli authorities had no intention of changing its course of action. The Committee urged the Israeli government to immediately fulfill its international legal obligations, including ending the genocide in the Gaza Strip and fully implementing the “temporary measures” of the International Court of Justice.
