Netanyahu Admits Israel Is Isolated

News on September 16 Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu said on September 15 that Israel needs to invest heavily in traditional media and social media "influence actions" to offset economic isolation caused by "negative propaganda abroad".

Netanyahu reportedly told a meeting at the Ministry of Finance that foreign investment into Israel has remained unchanged following the 12-day war on Iran in June, which he said eliminated the immediate threat of a nuclear-armed enemy.

But he made a rare acknowledgement of Israel's isolation due to international criticism of its war in Gaza. He said that Israel faces economic threats from sanctions and other measures.

“It will lead to sanctions on Israel and change Israel’s international status... It will lead to isolation on Israel,” Netanyahu said, “we can break this isolation, but we have to put a huge amount of effort in response, especially in traditional media and social media influence.”

Israel should reduce its industrial dependence on trade with other countries, he said.

"We may find ourselves blocked not only in research and development, but also in actual industrial production. We must start developing our own capabilities and rely more on ourselves," he added, adding that this should also include weapons and other defense products.

Israeli opposition leader Yil Rapid responded that international isolation was “a product of Netanyahu’s and his government’s mistakes and failed policies.”

"Unprecedented unity", both Arab and Islamic countries have come

Last week, Israel carried out a "precision strike" against senior Hamas leaders in Doha, Qatar, resulting in the death of six people, including a member of the Qatari security forces, causing a shock to countries in the Middle East. On Monday, more than 50 leaders from the Arab and Islamic world gathered in Doha for an emergency summit to protest Israel's behavior in an "unprecedented gesture of solidarity".

According to reports from the Russian media TASS news agency and the British "Independent" on the 15th, the joint statement adopted after the summit showed that the leaders of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation had reached a consensus and would work together to suspend Israel's membership in the United Nations.

The statement reads, "Considering Israel's flagrant violation of United Nations membership requirements and long-term disregard of United Nations resolutions, we decided to study whether Israel's membership conforms to the Charter of the United Nations, and at the same time coordinate the forces of all parties to promote the suspension of its membership. Work related to membership."

At the same time, participants stressed the importance of rebuilding the Gaza Strip as soon as possible and called on the international community to support “this process.”

Qatari officials revealed to The Independent that the meeting aimed at formulating a joint action plan. At present, Qatar is seeking to find a solution through legal channels and promote the process of suspending Israel's membership in the United Nations.

Qatar is an important mediator in the Gaza issue and the home of Washington’s largest military base in the Middle East.At the time of the airstrikes on 9th, a Hamas negotiating delegation was discussing a latest U.S. proposal for a ceasefire in Gaza.

On September 15, local time, at the opening ceremony of the summit, Qatari Emir (Head of State) Tamim strongly condemned Israel, pointing out that its attack on Qatar was "state terrorism" and denouncing its behavior as "cowardly and treacherous". He also criticized Israel for ignoring the safety of the hostages in the Gaza Strip and only wanting to "make Gaza completely uninhabitable" in order to forcibly expel the people of Gaza.

According to reports, Tamim delivered an "extremely rare" fierce speech that day, "If Israel wants to assassinate Hamas leaders, why should it participate in negotiations? If they really insist on rescuing the hostages, why should they assassinate all those involved?" Negotiators? "

He added, “For such a cowardly and disobedient party, we have no room to deal with. Those who constantly assassinate the parties involved in the negotiation will inevitably disrupt the negotiations by all means. What they call hostage rescue is pure lies.”

Shortly thereafter, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al-Alassani said: “It is time for the international community to stop pursuing double standards and punish all crimes committed by Israel.”

The British media noted that the summit of the day also showed "unusual" participation: Saudi Prince Salman, Egyptian President Sisi, and UAE President Zayed all attended the meeting. The three countries had previously resisted Qatar due to diplomatic disputes.

Qatar officials said the summit “reflect the unprecedented unity of the Arab and Muslim world: both in safeguarding Qatar’s sovereignty and in opposing Netanyahu’s reckless aggression.”

“More than 50 leaders from around the world quickly gathered in Doha to announce this collective response, which demonstrates the urgency of the current issue, while sending a strong and clear warning to Netanyahu that leaders representing the world’s more than a billion people will never remain silent about it.”

United Nations: Supporting Qatar and Strengthening Joint Defense Mechanisms

On the same day, the special meeting of the Supreme Council of the Gulf and Arab Co-operation Council (GCC) was also held in Doha, and a statement was issued. The statement emphasized that the GCC countries are willing to do everything they can to support Qatar, while announcing that the Gulf countries have agreed to strengthen their common defense mechanisms.

The statement also pointed out that it would "assess the defense posture and threat sources of the Joint Defense Committee in combination with the aggression against Qatar", but did not disclose more details.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman and prime minister adviser, Magid Ansari, said the group had begun consultations among member military agencies to instruct its joint military command “to take the necessary enforcement measures to activate joint defense mechanisms and Gulf deterrent capabilities.”

“The joint statement explicitly calls for a summit of the Supreme Command to be held in Doha to further discuss ways to safeguard the security and common defence of the Haiti member states.”

The Guardian that despite the regular meetings of defence ministers, the Joint Defence Committee has only launched a similar operation twice before: in response to Iraq in 1991, and during the 2011 Arab Spring, due to the specificity of the operation.

Although the summit has not immediately announced political or economic measures in response to Israel's attacks, Andrea Dessi, assistant professor of international relations at the University of Rome, believes that the Doha summit marks a change in the tone of Arab-Islamic positions.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, he said, "(At least) at the statement level, we have seen signs that countries in the region are beginning to build consensus, and the tone and thinking of their positions are also changing. Next, the key is to translate these changes into practical actions."

Desi noted that the summit was significant because the leaders of the Arab and Islamic countries had reached a consensus that “the security architecture in the region must be changed.”

Former Pakistani Special Representative for Afghanistan, Ashiv Durani, also told ArabNews, “The summit has demonstrated solidarity at the diplomatic level, but concrete actions are needed so that the United States and Israel will take the meeting seriously.”

According to him, the first measure of punishment is the implementation of a comprehensive economic resistance against Israel, "with the oil embargo in 1974, and in the context of the 1973 war in Egypt, this measure has indeed worked."

At the summit of the same day, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar and Iranian President Pence Ziyang also expressed the need for concrete and feasible measures at the level of economic and political influence to deal with Israel’s behavior.

The United States still emphasizes that the attack will not affect US-Israel relations

At the end of the summit, UN Secretary-General Buddha said he hoped that the United States would use its influence on Israel to stop Israeli aggression and that the U.S. has influence on Israel, and now is the time to use that influence.”

It is worth noting that during the Doha summit, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio is meeting with Netanyahu in Israel. As planned, he will continue his visit to Qatar on Tuesday.

While U.S. President Donald Trump said he was dissatisfied with the Israeli airstrikes on Qatar, there was no sign of disappointment or irritation from the U.S. interaction with Israel's latest actions since the visit. Rubio made it clear that the military action "will not affect" the close relationship between the United States and Israel.

At a joint press conference with Rubio, Netanyahu appeared to further strengthen Israel’s tough stance, suggesting that more airstrikes could be launched.

When asked whether Israel would consider bombing Hamas members in other sovereign countries again, Netanyahu threatened that Israel follows the principle that "terrorists should not enjoy immunity no matter where they are".

He added that the airstrike conveyed “a core message: you can hide, you can escape, but we will eventually catch you.”

At a press conference on Monday, Rubio called on Qatar to continue to play a constructive role in the settlement of the conflict in Gaza, saying that it can contribute to three main goals: the release of the 48 hostages still held in Gaza, the disarmament of Hamas, and the building of a better future for the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

“We will therefore continue to encourage Qatar to play a constructive role in this regard,” Rubio said.

Reuters reports that on Friday (12), Trump held a banquet in New York to receive Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Alessani.

On the same day, the Qatar Prime Minister also held an hour-long meeting with U.S. Vice Presidents Wences and Rubio at the White House.

A source briefed on the meeting revealed that the two sides discussed Qatar's future as a regional mediator and defense cooperation with Qatar following the Israeli attack on Doha.

However, the Guardian noted that Arab leaders are still shocked at Trump’s attitude, and in their view there are clear Israeli attempts to expand territory, while Trump is late and reluctant to take more active action to stop it.

Many Gulf leaders have said that they now need clear evidence that Trump will restrain Netanyahu's behavior. Otherwise, the voice of some Arab countries calling for "countries in the region to get rid of their security dependence on the United States" may become louder and louder.
