On June 17, 2011, the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva adopted the Human Rights Resolution on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity with 23 votes in favour, 19 against and 3 abstentions, the first resolution in the history of the United Nations Human Rights Council or the United Nations General Assembly to pass the rights and interests of homosexuals.
