November 30, 2016 Japan Discovered Element 113
On November 30, 2016, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) officially decided, through the proposal of the Japanese Institute of Chemical Research, to officially name the previously synthesized Japanese research team's 113th element as "Nihonium", the element's symbol as "Nh". According to the Ministry of Science of Japan, the 113th new element was officially recognized by the Japanese Institute of Chemical Research on November 30, 2016 and was therefore named. The Japanese media noted that this was the first time Japanese research team found the new element, and also the first time in Asia.
