German mathematician Leopold Kroneck.

December 7, 1823 – Leopold Kroneck, German mathematician

Leopold Kronecker (December 7, 1823-December 29, 1891), German mathematician and logician, born in Lignitz (now Legnica, Poland), died in Berlin. He believed that both arithmetic and mathematical analysis must be based on integers. He once said, "God created integers, and the rest was the work of man" (Bell 1986, p. 477). This is in contrast to the view of mathematician Georg Cantor. Kronecker was a student and lifelong friend of Ernst Kummer.

A great and humble mathematician.
