Today, 62 years ago, on September 4, 1963 (July 17, 1963 in the lunar calendar), French Prime Minister Schuman, who was known as the "Father of Europe", died. Robert Schuman (1886-1963), former Prime Minister of France. Born in Luxembourg. He studied law in universities in Bonn, Munich, Berlin and Strasbourg, and received his doctorate. Be a lawyer after graduation. He served as a member of the National Assembly from 1919 to 1949. He was arrested by the Germans during World War II and joined the resistance movement after escaping. Later, he was the founder of the People's Republican Movement. From 1945 to 1962, he served as a member of the National Assembly again. He served as Minister of Finance from June to November 1946. Prime Minister from 1947 to 1948. Minister of Foreign Affairs from July 1948 to January 1953. During his tenure as foreign minister, he advocated European construction together with Jean Monnet, and put forward the Schuman Plan on May 9, 1950, which laid the foundation for the European coal and steel joint venture and defense community. Minister of Justice from February 1955 to June 1956. President of the European Movement in 1955. From 1958 to 1960, he served as the president of the European Parliament, the consultative body of the European Common Market, and served as a member of parliament until February 1963, when he died on September 4th of the same year. Because of his contribution to the union of Western Europe, he is called the "Father of Europe".
