Wu Guanzhong, born in Yixing, Jiangsu Province in 1919, is a famous contemporary painter, a master of Chinese painting, an outstanding Chinese painter, an oil painter, a Chinese stream artist and an art educator. Graduated from National Hangzhou Art College in 1942 and taught in the Department of Architecture of National Chongqing University; In 1946, he was admitted to the Ministry of Education to study abroad at public expense. In 1947, he went to the National Haute School of Fine Arts in Paris, and returned to China in the autumn of 1950. He successively taught in the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Tsinghua University, Beijing Academy of Art and Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. Wu Guanzhong is one of the representative painters of modern Chinese painting in the 20th century; He devoted himself to the exploration of nationalization of oil painting and modernization of Chinese painting, forming distinctive artistic features; He has held many solo exhibitions in the National Art Museum of China, and successively held exhibitions in art galleries and museums in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, Britain, France and other countries; In 2000, Wu Guanzhong was elected as the corresponding academician of the French Academy of Art. He was not only the first Chinese artist to win this honor, but also the first Asian to win this position. Mr. Wu Guanzhong's paintings combine the essence of western painting and Chinese painting, with concise brushwork. His later works often like to shape with dots and lines, create his own unique solution, and interpret the beauty of nature. Life is a metaphor for them, which is like his hard and suffering experience, and he has been searching for a long time... And his articles are also educational, simple and unpretentious, reading and gaining a lot. At the same time, Wu Guanzhong's works have repeatedly hit new highs in the auction art market; As his last publicly auctioned work during his lifetime, at the 2010 Spring Auction of Hanhai, his 1974 oil painting "A Thousand Miles of the Yangtze River" was sold for RMB 57.12 million. His masterpieces are Three Gorges of the Yangtze River, Hometown of Lu Xun, Spring Snow and The Great Wall. At 23:57 on June 25, 2010, Mr. Wu Guanzhong died in Beijing Hospital at the age of 91 due to ineffective treatment. In accordance with Wu Guanzhong's last wish, no farewell ceremony or memorial service will be held; Tsinghua University will hold a memorial service for Professor Wu Guanzhong.
