On February 3, 1994, the State Council regulated the 44-hour work week from March 1.
Thirty-one years ago today, on February 3, 1994 (December 23, 1993 in the lunar calendar), the State Council stipulated that a 44-hour working week would be implemented from March 1. The regulations say: "China implements a working hour system in which employees work 8 hours a day and an average of 44 hours a week. From March 1st, Saturday and Sunday of the first week will be rest days, and Sunday of the second week will be rest days, and this cycle will follow". On March 25, 1995, Premier Li Peng signed a decree of the State Council: "From May 1 this year, the working system of employees working 8 hours a day and 5 days a week will be implemented."
