On May 11th, 2004 (March 23rd, 2004 in the lunar calendar), the Supreme Procuratorate decided to strictly investigate the criminal activities of agency personnel who use their powers to violate human rights. Jia Chunwang, chief procurator of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, made a work report. On May 11, 2004, the Supreme People's Procuratorate decided that from May this year to June next year, procuratorial organs would carry out a special campaign to seriously investigate and deal with crimes committed by state organs' functionaries who use their functions and powers to violate human rights, and will focus on five types of crimes that violate human rights by using their functions and powers: cases in which dereliction of duty causes heavy losses of people's lives and property; Cases of unlawful searches; Cases of extorting confessions by torture and obtaining evidence by violence; Cases of sabotage of elections and violation of citizens' * rights; Cases of ill-treatment of detainees.
