On January 22, 1949, the Kuomintang troops gave up control of Peiping and the Communist Party of China took over. This indicates that the long-running civil war is drawing to a close. The traditional Chinese capital was under siege for more than a month. Fu Zuoyi, a Kuomintang general, reached an agreement with the Communist Party of China (CPC), who was trying to achieve peace in North China, and almost politely handed over Peiping. According to this agreement, a joint committee was set up to supervise the transition to a Communist-led regime. Meanwhile, in the capital of the Kuomintang, Chiang Kai-shek, who had fought with the Communist Party for more than 20 years, announced that he would resign as president in order to end the hostilities between the two sides. Li Zongren, who was appointed acting president, declared that his caretaker government was ready to negotiate peace on terms laid out by Mao earlier in January. In Qingdao, it is said that 8,000 US Marines will be withdrawn. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1xsx.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.16-20:39] 访问:78
