On May 12, 1991, the United Nations Children’s Fund published a study showing that there were 30 million homeless children worldwide and 80 million children under the age of 15 working. The vast majority of these children had no access to medical care or education. The majority of homeless children were forced to earn their lives in heavy physical labor, and therefore their physical and mental health was severely undermined. The report called on the international community to help these homeless children escape poverty and hunger and make them no longer exploited.
