Zhou Shilu, the word again, is a rice producer. Born on August 15, 1897 in Danxu Village, Fotang Town, Yiwu County, Zhejiang Province. His father worked in agriculture and had 6 brothers and sisters. He ranked second. In his childhood, he studied private school in the village for a year and went to Jinhua to study at the age of 12. Due to family difficulties, he dropped out of school in less than two years and returned home to work in agriculture.
However, Zhou Shilu was determined to be studious and was admitted to Hangzhou Junior Normal School at the age of 15. After graduating three years, he taught at a mountain village primary school in Dongyang County, more than 30 miles away from home. Three years later, he was admitted to the publicly funded Nanjing Normal University (later changed to the Agricultural Department of Southeast University). He graduated in 1921 and went to the school's Dashengguan Agricultural Experimental Farm to engage in rice experimental research. From then on, he devoted his life to rice scientific research and teaching.
He pioneered the identification of local rice varieties, laying the foundation for the improvement of rice varieties in my country; in the 1930s, he vigorously promoted the sale of Hunan rice to Guangdong to meet the needs of war preparations; and proposed a new hypothesis on the origin of japonica rice, which attracted the attention of academic circles. He was self-reliant and dedicated to his official duties, making contributions to the development of rice production and scientific research in my country.
