Thirty-four years ago today, on May 12th, 1991 (March 28th, 1991 in the lunar calendar), Jing'an Ancient Temple in Shanghai was restored to its original appearance. Jing'an Temple in Shanghai On May 12th, 1991, Buddhist circles in Shanghai held a grand opening ceremony of the Daxiong Hall and the Jade Buddha statue of Sakyamuni in Jing'an Ancient Temple, a famous temple. Jing'an Ancient Temple was founded in the 10th year of Chiwu, Sun Quan, Dongwu, the Three Kingdoms (AD 247). It has a history of more than 1,772 years and is the earliest temple in Shanghai. The ancient temple has gone through vicissitudes and was completely destroyed in the "ten years of turmoil". In 1984, the relevant departments of Shanghai decided to restore Jing'an Ancient Temple according to its original historical appearance, and Chiwu Mountain Gate, Tianwang Hall, Sansheng Temple, Gongde Hall and Abbot's Room were built one after another. The completion of the Daxiong Hall marks that Jing'an Temple has basically restored its original appearance in the early days of liberation.
