33 years ago today, on November 24th, 1992 (November 1st, 1992 in the lunar calendar), a China Southern Airlines passenger plane crashed in Yangshuo, Guilin. At about 7:54 a.m. on November 24, 1992, a Boeing 737 2523 of China Southern Airlines, carrying out flight 3943, flew from Guangzhou to Guilin, and disintegrated in the back mountain of Tuling Village, Yangdi Township, Yangshuo County, Guangxi. All 133 passengers and 8 crew members on board were killed (141 people were killed in total), and no one survived. Among the passengers on board, there are 3 foreign passengers (including 1 from Canada and 2 from Spain), 9 passengers from Taiwan Province and 1 passenger from Macau. After the accident, more than 1,600 leaders of the party, government and army in Guilin, as well as public security, armed police and army soldiers immediately rushed to the scene of the accident, blocked the scene together with local cadres and masses, and went up the mountain to search for the bodies and relics of the victims. While organizing experts to conduct investigation and analysis, the civil aviation department also invited nine experts from the US Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Boeing Aircraft Company and CFM International Company to Guilin for a seven-day investigation and exchanged views with Chinese experts. On the morning of November 25th, the "black box" on the plane, which has been concerned by people, was finally found in the valley, but it was seriously damaged, which made it more difficult to analyze the cause of the accident in the next step. Entrusted by Premier Li Peng, Luo Gan, Secretary-General of the State Council, led the responsible persons of relevant parties to the scene on the same day, listened to the report, inspected the scene of the accident, and deployed the aftermath overnight. On behalf of Premier Li Peng, he expressed his condolences to the victims, condolences to the families of the victims, and gratitude to the PLA officers and men, public security and armed police officers and men who participated in the search and rescue work. He said that in the attitude of being responsible to the families of the victims, we should do everything possible to do a good job in accident investigation and aftermath, and do our best to search for the relics and bodies of the victims.
