In 1908, an East Indian-style building was rebuilt on the original site. Tang Yougan, a descendant of Tang Tingshu's family and an old man in his 80s, once told that after Tang Tingshu was 50 years old, he often returned to his hometown to be keen on public welfare. He once tried to build a wharf in Tangjiawan, and opened up a route to Guangzhou and Hong Kong with a small ferry. Thirty-seven years later, when Sun Yat-sen planned the Strategy for the Founding of the People's Republic of China, he designated this wharf as the Tang family port. According to records, after Tang Tingshu died of illness in Tianjin, his coffin was transported back from Shanghai to his hometown Tangjiawan by ship. Tang Tingshu's coffin was accompanied by a special ship of commercial officials from thirteen countries. When this huge fleet was "lined up" around the sea in front of the Tang family, the whole coast was brightly lit. Nearly a thousand people attended the funeral, and the consulates of thirteen countries in Tianjin flew their flags at half-mast on the public holiday.
