He had jointly proposed the Law of Biot-Savour, named after him and Felix Biot, who adhered to the view that electrical and magnetic are irrelevant, and then supported Auster. In the early 1800s, he studied the polarization of light through the solution, as well as the relationship between current and magnetic fields. The Law of Biot-Savour, which describes the magnetic fields produced by a stable current, is named after him and Felix Biot. Biot was the first to discover the unique optical nature of the cloud, so the black cloud of minerals based on the cloud was named after him.
