May 1, 1950 The People's Liberation Army liberated Hainan Island
On this day, 75 years ago, on May 1, 1950 (March 15, 1950 in the lunar calendar), the People's Liberation Army liberated Hainan Island. Hainan Island was liberated on May 1, 1950. After Haikou citizens gathered to celebrate the liberation of Central and Southern China, about 100,000 Kuomintang troops stationed on Hainan Island and fleeing from the mainland to the island, under the command of Xue Yue, the Kuomintang Qiongya Security Commander and Defense Commander-in-Chief, attempted to resist the island. The Fourth Field Army of the People's Liberation Army launched the Battle of Hainan Island in March 1950, and successfully smuggled it into the country with the cooperation of the Qiongya Column. On April 17, he broke through the enemy's blockade and forcibly crossed the Qiongzhou Strait and successfully landed in the northern part of Hainan Island. By May 1, the island was liberated and more than 30,000 enemy people were wiped out. The remnant enemy fled to Taiwan from the sea. The People's Liberation Army attacked the Kuomintang garrison beachhead position during the battle on Hainan Island
