On this day, 75 years ago, on May 1, 1950 (March 15, 1950 in the lunar calendar), the People's Liberation Army liberated Hainan Island. Hainan Island was liberated on May 1, 1950. After Haikou citizens gathered to celebrate the liberation of Central and Southern China, about 100,000 Kuomintang troops stationed on Hainan Island and fleeing from the mainland to the island, under the command of Xue Yue, the Kuomintang Qiongya Security Commander and Defense Commander-in-Chief, attempted to resist the island. The Fourth Field Army of the People's Liberation Army launched the Battle of Hainan Island in March 1950, and successfully smuggled it into the country with the cooperation of the Qiongya Column.
