On this day, 69 years ago, November 17, 1956 (October 15, 1956 in the lunar calendar), Deng Xiaoping said that Marxism-Leninism should be integrated with the actual situation in China. On November 17, 1956, when Deng Xiaoping met with the international youth delegation, he asked them "What does the meaning of a Communist Party member in China?" Who will decide which of the principles of international classical communism are suitable for China?" Questions were answered. He said: If the meaning or task of members of the Communist Party of China is summed up in two sentences: serving the people wholeheartedly, and taking the interests of the people as the highest criterion for every party member. The standards of a Communist Party member cannot be achieved overnight. A Communist Party member, first, he is an ordinary person, and second, he is an advanced element among ordinary people. But there are also Communist Party members who are even more backward than ordinary people. Deng Xiaoping pointed out that who decides which of the principles of international classical communism applies to China. Eleven years ago, the Seventh National Congress of the Communist Party of China established the principle of combining the universal truth of Marxism-Leninism with the specific practice of China's revolution to guide our country's revolution and our country's construction. This principle was summarized by our party and Comrade Mao Zedong based on the experience of failures and successes in past revolutions and affirmed at the Seventh and Eighth Party Congresses. Of course, this is just a principle, and the application of the principle will encounter many specific problems. The problems of a country are multi-faceted. Whether it is the revolutionary period or the construction period, how to combine Marxism-Leninism with the specific conditions of each period is a problem that needs to be solved continuously. This issue needs to be discussed and decided by the Party Congress, and it will be discussed and decided by the Central Committee when the Congress is not in session. Once the problem is decided, party members still need to be good at solving it in practical work. First of all, it takes tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of key personnel to understand this principle before this principle can be implemented. Deng Xiaoping emphasized that the universal truth of Marxism-Leninism is integrated with the specific reality of the country, and this sentence itself is a universal truth. It contains two aspects, on the one hand, it is called universal truth, and on the other hand, it is called combining the reality of the country. We have always believed that we cannot lose any aspect. This universal truth cannot be realized if one leaves one's own characteristics and forcibly transfers foreign things. On the issue of integrating universal truth with concrete reality, our party has suffered many losses in the past, but it has always grasped the principle of opposing subjectivism since then. There are two aspects to opposing subjectivism, namely, opposing dogmatism and opposing empiricism. Dogmatism means only knowing the words of Marxism-Leninism and not applying them based on specific situations. It has caused my country's revolution to suffer failures and setbacks. Empiricism means only seeing some specific practices, only seeing the temporary experience of one country and one place, and not seeing the principles of Marxism-Leninism. We oppose both. Deng Xiaoping finally said that according to our experience, it is not easy to combine universal truth with concrete reality. The Communist Party of China also often makes mistakes. However, we pay attention to and study the reasons for making mistakes and correct them in a timely manner. Chairman Mao said that people should wash their faces frequently and their houses should be cleaned frequently. The same is true of the party, which must often correct mistakes. I often make mistakes myself. Everyone is like this. Chairman Mao often said that he often made mistakes. But we all know that he makes fewer mistakes than we do. Anyone can make mistakes, and there is no one who will never make mistakes.
