Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On July 2, 1504, Grand Duke Stefan, a national hero of Romania, passed away
On this day, 521 years ago, July 2, 1504 (May 21, 1504 in the lunar calendar), Romania national hero Grand Duke Stefan passed away. Archduke Stefan was a national hero of medieval Romania. Romania chronicler Gregore Urekai described him: "He is perfect in character, hard-working and capable, good at self-denial, and unpredictable; he is good at war, going to the front line to boost morale, and often wins battles; when frustrated, he never loses confidence and is good at defeating the enemy again. During Stefan's half-century rule (1457-1504), he politically consolidated Moldova (a country in medieval Romania), defended its independence, and became one of the main political forces in Eastern Europe. Stefan made significant contributions to eliminating feudal separatism internally, implementing centralization of power, and defending national independence externally. He used wise decision-making, mastered skillful military art, and demonstrated strong will, thus achieving success in his career. Before Stefan came to power, Moldova experienced 25 years of infighting. After he ascended the throne, he adopted a series of policies to gradually move the country towards stability and unity. On this basis, he formed a danger of Ottoman expansion with countries such as Venice, Hungary and Turkmenistan, and he broke the dream of Poland and other countries to conquer Moldova. He fought in 36 battles to defend the motherland and passed away on July 2, 1504. Future generations will regard him as a symbol of justice and independence.
