On this day, 82 years ago, August 1, 1943 (July 1, 1943 in the lunar calendar), Chairman of the National Government Lin Sen passed away. Lin Sen, Chairman of the National Government, passed away in Chongqing on August 1, 1943. Lin Sen was born in 1867 in Minhou, Fujian. Joined the League in 1905. After the Wuchang Uprising in 1911, he instigated the Jiujiang New Army to declare independence. In November of the same year, as a representative of Jiangxi, he participated in the formulation of the "Interim Government Organizational Outline" and elected Sun Yat-sen as interim president. In January 1912, he was elected President of the Nanjing Provisional Senate and participated in the formulation of the Provisional Instrument. In 1913, he attended the first Congress and was elected chairman of the Senate. After Yuan Shikai ordered the suspension of parliamentary activities, he traveled eastward to Japan and joined the Chinese Revolutionary Party. In 1914, he went to the United States to raise funds for Sun Yat-sen's campaign against Yuan. During the War of Protection of Law, he served as Foreign Minister of the Grand Yuan Marshal's Office and was elected President of the Senate. In January 1924, he was elected as a member of the Central Executive Committee at the First National Congress of the Kuomintang. After Sun Yat-sen died in 1925, he became an important member of the Kuomintang's rightist "Xishan Conference Party" and served as chairman of the conference. He was elected as a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee and an overseas minister. In 1927, he served as a member of the Central Committee of the Kuomintang Party. In 1928, he served as a member of the National Government and Vice President of the Legislative Yuan. In 1931, he was appointed President of the Legislative Yuan of the National Government. In December of the same year, he was elected as acting chairman of the National Government. Soon after, he was elected chairman of the National Government and was the head of state with no actual power. In November 1937, Lin Sen entered Sichuan with the National Government. In May 1943, while on his way to the suburbs of Chongqing, the driver accidentally hit the car against a telephone pole. After Lin Sen was taken to the hospital, he remained in a coma until his death. The National Government held a grand state funeral for him.
