99 years ago today, on March 17, 1926 (February 4, 1926 in the lunar calendar), German writer Siegfried Lenz was born. Siegfried Lenz was born on March 17, 1926 in Luc, Ostypsmauri region. He joined Hitler's Youth League, was drafted into the army just before the end of the war, and fled to Denmark when the Nazi army collapsed. After the war he studied English literature, German literature and philosophy in Hamburg. In 1950, he served as editor of the supplement to Le Monde. He has been a professional writer since 1951. Lenz advocated reform politically, agreed with the Social Democratic Party's program, artistically advocated that art serves morality, opposed writers being outside social reality, and his early creation was influenced by Hemingway and others. The first novel in 1951 was "The Eagles in the Sky". The famous work "German Lesson" was published in 1968 and was one of the more popular novels in West Germany after the war. The novel is based on the real incident of painter Emile Hansen being banned from painting during the Nazi rule, and attracted the attention of public opinion. Lenz's important novels include "Duel with the Shadow"(1953),"Man in the Torrent"(1957), and "Bread and the Race"(1958). "Storms and Storms in the City" published in 1963 raised the issue of guilt for war and expressed the author's reflection on past wars. He also wrote dramas and radio dramas.
