On this day, 47 years ago, on March 9, 1978 (February 1, 1978, the University of Science and Technology of China opened a junior class. On March 9, 1978, China University of Science and Technology enrolled more than 700 students, including 20 teenagers who were selected exceptionally, in accordance with the principle of comprehensive evaluation of morality, intelligence and physical education and admission on the basis of merit. The oldest of the teenagers admitted by China University of Science and Technology this time was 16 years old and the youngest was only 11 years old. During the enrollment work, admissions staff found a group of primary and secondary school students aged only 13 and 14 years old with excellent grades through public recommendation and on-the-spot understanding. Most of them failed to participate in the unified college entrance examination. Teachers from University of Science and Technology of China went to Shanghai, Changsha, Shenyang, Fuzhou, Yangzhou and other places to conduct multiple written and oral examinations on these teenagers one by one, and then went through physical examinations before selecting these young college students. After these young people who were full of hard self-study and courage to tackle key problems were admitted, the University of Science and Technology opened a special class for them and compiled special teaching materials for them. In addition to teachers with strong professional skills, they also equipped a female teacher with strong political skills and professional skills as the class teacher to educate and care for these students in terms of political thoughts and life.
