August 3, 1778 The Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy was opened
247 years ago today, on August 3, 1778 (June 11, 1778, the Scala Opera House in Milan, Italy was opened. Scala Opera House is the largest opera house in Italy and one of the best acoustics in the world. It is located in the center of Milan, about 200 meters away from the Cathedral of Milan. The opera house was built in 1778. Its predecessor was the Grand Duke Theatre, which was the largest theater in Milan at that time, but was unfortunately destroyed in a fire in 1776. It was rebuilt in the same year. It took 1 year and 9 months to build it. After testing, the sound effects were surprisingly good, and its architectural designer Giuseppe Piermarini was also highly praised for this. This neo-classical opera house was named La Scala Opera House because it was built on the foundation of the demolished Church of Santa Maria de Scala. During World War II, the theater was bombed and the entire performance hall was completely destroyed. After the war, the Italian government allocated huge sums of money to rebuild it to the highest standards of the time, making it one of the most perfect theaters in the world. Today's Scala Opera House is a three-story building with embossed on the triangular lintel above the main entrance, three arched doorways below are the entrance, and a balcony in the middle. It is grand in scale and dignified. Although it is extremely ordinary in appearance, its gray brick walls and colonnades, and wooden doors and windows do seem eclipsed by the contrast of many tall and magnificent buildings around it, but inside the theater, it is a different scenery. The area of the theater pool is 405 square meters, the area of the orchestra pool is 121 square meters, and the area of the stage is 780 square meters. The stage is 35 meters deep, 26.6 meters wide and 27.5 meters high. The pool seat is horseshoe shaped and has 678 seats. There are 6 floors of towers around, the first to fourth floors are boxes, each box has 6 seats, and the top two floors are ordinary towers, with a total of 409 seats. With the pool seats, the entire theater can accommodate more than 3600 spectators. The carved beams and painted buildings in the hall are resplendent. In particular, a very exquisite large crystal chandelier hangs above the 18.8-meter-high dome in the center of the pool seat. It consists of 362 colorful small lights, making the hall more magnificent. The emperor's box in the middle of the second floor is inlaid with gold and silver, with silk blankets and velvet curtains, like an emperor's bedroom. To this day, the Scala Opera House is still one of the few luxury theaters in the world. For more than 200 years, Scala Opera House has made great contributions to world art. First-class programs are performed here all year round, including operas, ballets, concerts, etc. Many musicians with important positions in the history of Italian music are associated with the name of this opera house. Therefore, it is regarded as a sacred place for opera by many musicians and singers in the West. It is proud to be able to perform here. Therefore, the Scala Opera House has the title of "Mecca of Opera". In front of the Scala Opera House is the Scala Square. In the center stands the Monument to Leonardo Leonardo da Vinci, a great Renaissance artist and scientist who settled in Milan twice. On the top of the monument, there is a statue of Leonardo da Vinci. Leonardo held the book in one hand and raised the other slightly. His face was dignified and his deep and clear eyes revealed the light of wisdom. There are also portraits of four of his favorite students on the stele. Scala Opera House is not only an opera shrine in Italy, but also a place around the world.
