On this day, 236 years ago, September 22, 1789 (August 4, 1789 in the lunar calendar), the Battle of the Ramnik River. The Battle of the Ramnik River was a battle between the Russian-Austrian coalition forces and the Turkish army on the banks of the Ramnik River (a tributary of the Siret River in Romania) during the Russian-Turkish War (1787-1791). In early September 1789, Turkish Prime Minister Yusuf Basha led a Turkish army (more than 100,000 troops, 80 artillery pieces) to attack the Austrian army (18,000 troops, 43 artillery pieces) of Prince Coburg stationed in the Fokshani region. After Suvorov learned of the Turkish army's action plan to attack the Austrian Allies, he led 7000 people to set out from the Borrad region on the night of September 18 to assist the Allies. They marched 100 kilometers in two and a half days and nights, ahead of the Turkish army. Arrived in Foksani. Suvorov commanded the Russian-Austrian coalition forces. He found out that the Turkish army did not expect to be attacked, so they were scattered in fortified barracks near Tergukukuli (about 15,000 people), the Krengumeilor Forest (about 40,000 people), near Martinnesti (about 45,000 people) and on the other side of the Ramnik River (near the village of Odaya). Suvorov decided to defeat the enemy one by one. At dawn on September 22, after a 14-kilometer night march, the coalition forces suddenly attacked and captured the Tergukukuli Barracks in a deep configuration (infantry phalanx in front and cavalry in behind). Subsequently, the coalition forces cleverly mobilized their troops and used the firepower of the infantry phalanx to repel the counter-impact of the enemy cavalry, and captured the fortified barracks near Krengumeilor; while pursuing the hastily retreating enemy, they captured the fortified barracks of the Turkish army Martinnesti. The next day, Russian troops occupied the barracks near Odaya. The Turkish army lost 15,000 - 20,000 people (including 10,000) and all artillery and baggage in the Battle of the Ramnik River, and the coalition forces lost about 700 people. The Battle on the Rumnik River is recorded in the history of Russian military academia as an example of frequently maneuvering troops on the battlefield, defeating the enemy one by one, and "not using force, but using wisdom." The victory at the Battle of the Ramnik River determined that the war was in favor of Russia in 1789. Suvorov was awarded the Order of St. George, 1st Class, and the Earl of Ramnik.
