On this day, 41 years ago, April 6, 1984 (March 6, 1984, the lunar calendar), the recovery of satellites created a new era in aerospace history. During its 11th flight from April 6 to 13, 1984, the U.S. Space Shuttle successfully recovered and repaired the failed solar peak satellite. This satellite was launched on February 14, 1980. It failed after only nine months of operation. This time, the successful recovery and repair brought the satellite back to life during the peak of the solar year, thus creating a new era of satellite recovery in the history of aerospace. The altitude at this time of recovery was 480 kilometers, the highest since the space shuttle flew.
