Admission Ceremony for the First National Games The first National Games of China was held in Beijing from September 13 to October 3, 1959. The National Games of the People's Republic of China, referred to as the "National Games", is the highest-level and largest comprehensive sports meeting in China. There were 10658 people participating in the competition from 30 units including provinces, cities, autonomous regions, and the People's Liberation Army of China. There are 36 competition events and 6 performance events. Seven people broke the world record 4 times, and 664 people broke 106 national records 884 times. The conference awarded sports honorary medals to more than 40 athletes who broke world records and won world championships in the 10 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China.
