On this day, 33 years ago, on December 2, 1992 (November 9, 1992, the lunar calendar), my country purchased orbiting satellites from abroad for the first time. On December 2, 1992, the signing ceremony for the purchase of the on-orbit communication satellites of GTE Space Networks of the United States by China Communications and Broadcasting Satellite Corporation and China Post and Telecommunications Equipment Corporation was held in Beijing today. This is the first time that my country has purchased in-orbit communication satellites from abroad. This three-axis stable large-scale communication satellite launched in the mid-1980s will drift from 120 degrees west longitude in mid-April 1993, move to the sky above our country and be fixed at 115.5 degrees east longitude. It can provide more than 10,000 satellite communication circuits for our country and transmit more than 10 TV programs. It is expected that the satellite will operate until early 1997 while maintaining accuracy.
